Following the imposition of a weekend curfew in the national capital, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is expected to hold a meeting on the COVID-19 situation later on Friday. Satyendar Jain, the Minister of Health, and other senior officials are expected to attend the meeting.

Restaurants will not be permitted to cater to dining, and only home delivery and takeaways will be permitted. The Delhi government will also keep an eye on crowds at weekly markets, and covid regulations will be strictly enforced in markets and public spaces.

“We believe that people must travel during the week for work and other important activities. Weekends, on the other hand, are usually reserved for leisure and entertainment activities—activities that can be curtailed and limited in the given situation,” said Kejriwal.

On Wednesday, Delhi reported over 17,000 cases of Covid-19, making it the country’s worst-affected area, well ahead of Mumbai in the daily tally. According to data shared by the health department, it reported 17,282 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the highest single-day increase in the national capital since the pandemic began, with over 100 fatalities.
