The sub-compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment is rapidly gaining popularity in the Indian market. This segment has almost overtaken hatchbacks and sedans and thanks to the advanced features and design models in the market. An example of this is presented by South Korea’s leading automaker Kia, the company claims that its small SUV Kia Sonet has crossed the 1 lakh mark in terms of sales.
According to the information shared by the company, Kia Sonet was launched for sale in the month of September last year. Since the launch of this SUV, more than 1 lakh units have been sold. This model is fast becoming popular in the subcompact SUV segment and due to the low price, better looks and great mileage, people are also liking it a lot.
Kia India says that in the Indian market, it accounts for 32% of the company’s total sales, while this SUV in the segment has a market share of about 17%. Kia India, which is a market leader along with Seltos, comprises of Sonet and Cornwall models in its vehicle portfolio.
How is the new Kia Sonet:
The Kia Sonet is available in the Indian market with a total of three engine options, which include two petrol and one diesel engine. In this you get a 1 liter turbo petrol engine (120PS power and 172Nm torque), 1.2 liter petrol engine (83PS power and 115Nm torque) and 1.5 liter diesel engine (100PS power and 240Nm torque). This SUV comes with 5 speed manual, 6 speed clutchless manual and 7 speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) gearbox.
As far as features are concerned, this SUV gets features like wireless charging, sunroof, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and air purifier with the company’s traditional UVO Car Connected technology. In terms of safety, this SUV gets features like 6 airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Vehicle Stability Management.
Price and Mileage:
The Kia Sonet comes in a total of 6 variants and its price ranges from Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 13.55 lakh. In terms of mileage also, this SUV is much better. Its petrol variant gives a mileage of 18 km, diesel manual variant 24 km and diesel automatic 19 kmpl.
