In the Eliminator match of IPL 2022, RCB beat Lucknow by 14 runs to enter Qualifier 2. Bangalore scored 207 for 4 wickets after winning the toss and electing to bat first. In reply, the Lucknow team could only manage 193 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the entire 20 overs. Rajat Patidar scored his first century and became the hero of his team’s victory with unbeaten innings of 112 runs in 54 balls. With this win, Bangalore has now advanced to Qualifier 2 where they will face Rajasthan Royals on May 27.

RCB scored 207 for four with Patidar’s unbeaten 112 off 54 balls with 12 fours and seven sixes and shared an unbroken partnership of 92 runs in just 6.5 overs with Dinesh Karthik (37 not out) for the fifth wicket Patidar and Virat Kohli also added 66 runs for the second wicket (25). Patidar and Karthik batted stormy in the death overs as RCB’s team managed to score 84 runs in the last five overs. Patidar is the fourth batsman this season to score a century.
No one raised hope except Rahul
The Super Giants team could only manage 193 for six in reply to 207 despite a 96-run partnership for the third wicket with captain Lokesh Rahul (79) and Deepak Hooda (45). For RCB, Josh Hazlewood took three wickets for 44 runs. Harshal Patel took one wicket for 25 runs in four overs while bowling economically. Quinton de Kock (06), chasing the target, opened the account with a six on Mohammad Siraj but was caught by RCB captain Faf du Plessis on the next ball. Karthik squandered a chance to stump Manan Vohra (19) off Shahbaz Ahmed, which he made up for by hitting a six off the next ball. In the next over, Vohra hit fours and sixes off Josh Hazlewood but was caught by Shahbaz on the next ball. Captain Lokesh Rahul opened his boundary account in the sixth over with two sixes and a four off Siraj as the team posted 62 for two in the powerplay.

Deepak Hooda opened the account by hitting a four on Hazlewood and then hitting a six on Shahbaz. He and the captain helped the team score 89 runs for two wickets in 10 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel bowled hard in the middle overs. Rahul and Hooda completed the team’s century in the 12th over. Rahul completed his half-century in 43 balls with a six-off Hazlewood. Hooda also tried to increase the run rate by hitting a six in this over and then two sixes off Hasranga’s ball but this leg-spinner bowled him. Hooda faced 26 balls, hitting four sixes and one four. Marcus Stoinis got the ball rolling in the 15th over, scoring 18 runs off Hasranga’s bowling. The Super Giants needed 65 runs in the final five overs to win. With sixes off Siraj and Hasranga, Rahul bridged the gap between run and ball. In the 18th over, Harshal hit Stoinis (09) for six runs. Patidar caught the ball on the boundary. In this over, eight runs were scored.
33 runs needed in the last 2 overs
In the final two overs, the Super Giants required 33 runs. After this, Hazlewood gave a big blow to the Super Giants by getting Rahul caught by Shahbaz at short third man. Kunal Pandya (00) was also caught back in the hands of Hazlewood on the next ball. Nine runs were scored in this over. Super Giants needed 24 runs in Harshal’s final over but Dushmant Chamira (11 not out) and Evin Lewis (2 not out) could only manage nine runs. In this way, Lucknow got out of the tournament by 14 runs behind the target.
