About a month ago, in a cabinet meeting, the Punjab government had made up its mind to restore the old pension scheme for the employees. On the other hand, State Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had also said that the employees should be given the option to opt for the old pension scheme. Now after the announcement of the government, the employees will get a big benefit.
OPS advantage over NPS
In fact, continuous agitations were going on at the state level regarding the old scheme. Earlier Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh governments also implemented the old pension scheme. Let us tell you that after 2010, the government appointed employees under the New Pension (NPS). In this scheme, the employees get very less benefits as compared to the old scheme. Under this, the government will have to pay tax on the money received after retirement.
