Indian Railways changed this rule secretly! said this on child travel norms

According to a response provided by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) in response to a request made under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the revised rules are predicted to increase the railroads’ revenue by Rs 560 crore in 2022–2023. In crucial sectors including ticketing and passenger handling, goods services, and rail, CRIS, which is part of the Ministry of Railways, offers IT solutions.

Children between the ages of five and twelve will pay the full cost, the Railway Ministry said on March 31, 2016. When kids seek a separate bunk or seat in the reserved coach, this rule will apply. On April 21, 2016, this regulation went into effect. Children between the ages of five and twelve used to be given berths by the railways for a fee of half the fare. The second option requires the child to pay half the cost even if he rides in the same berth as his adult guardian.

CRIS has provided numbers for the financial years 2016–17 through 2022–23. Data indicates that almost 3.6 crore youngsters traveled over these seven years. By paying half the ticket without selecting a reserved seat or berth. While over 10 crore youngsters chose a separate bunk or seat and paid the entire cost, the opposite is also true. The response also reveals that almost 70% of all youngsters travel by Indian Railways. Prefer to occupy a bunk or seat by paying the entire cost, according to RTI petitioner Chandrashekhar Gaur.
