The central government might soon implement the next rise in dearness allowance, per an ET article. Dearness relief (DR) will rise in addition to dearness allowance (DA). Pensioners who were once central government employees receive DR benefits in the same manner as current employees of the government receive DA benefits.
Twice a year are modifications performed.
Adjustments to the dearness allowance are made twice a year by the Seventh Pay Commission’s recommendations. The first modification to the dearness allowance takes effect in January, the first month of the year, and the second alteration takes effect in July. Long since gone is the month of July, and now August is almost over as well. As a result, it is anticipated that the government will decide to alter the dearness allowance soon. The announcement of this magnitude of increase was made in March. This year, the Dearness Allowance has been raised once. In March 2024, an increase in the dearness allowance was declared. During that period, the government had increased the rates of both dearness allowance and dearness relief by 4-4 percent. After that, the rate of DA and DR has increased to more than 50 percent. The increase announced in March has been implemented from January.
This significant increase in dearness allowance is anticipated.
This time, a 3-5 percent boost in DA and DR is anticipated from the government. The rate of dearness allowance will surpass 53 percent if this occurs. For the previous year, the average Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) was 400.90. Based on the computation, the approximated DA rate is 53.35 percent. Based on CPI-IW, the government modifies the rates for dearness relief and dearness allowance.
