India’s First Hydrogen Train: Launch Date & Details

Indian Railways Hydrogen Train: In the fiscal year 2023–2024, the Ministry of Railways has set aside Rs 2800 crore to create 35 hydrogen fuel cell trains. These trains’ operation will lessen pollution.

Update on Hydrogen Trains: The world’s fourth-largest network is operated by Indian Railways. Every day, thousands of people pass through it. The railway industry has seen tremendous transformation in recent years, both in terms of infrastructure and technology. The Indian Railways will implement yet another new technology after switching from diesel to electric engines. India’s Railway Ministry is getting ready to launch trains that run on hydrogen shortly. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai is producing the nation’s first hydrogen train.

Update on Hydrogen Trains

A significant step in the direction of environmentally friendly transportation

An important step toward environmentally friendly transportation will be the nation’s first hydrogen train. This will assist in reaching the goal of carbon emission zero. In the fiscal year 2023–2024, the Railway Ministry has set aside Rs 2800 crore to develop 35 hydrogen fuel cell trains. In addition to providing passengers with great convenience, operating these trains would lessen pollution. This train’s preparations are nearly finished. It should be available by March 2025.

The capacity of the Indian-made hydrogen train is doubled.

The hydrogen fuel cell train set is being produced quickly, according to a statement made earlier in January by U Subbarao, General Manager (GM) of ICF. By March 25, it can be ready. The capacity of the hydrogen train produced in other nations is between 500 and 600 horsepower (HP). However, India has made history in this regard, and the hydrogen train that will be built there will have an engine with 1,200 horsepower. This is the world’s largest capacity hydrogen train engine.

The first hydrogen train will run where?

The Delhi division of Northern Railway has been assigned India’s first hydrogen train. This train will travel the Jind-Sonipat rail route, which is 89 km long. Operating a hydrogen train domestically will have numerous advantages. First of all, the ecology will benefit from such a train. There will be less pollution and no carbon emissions from this train.

Second, this train may end up being more cost-effective than diesel and electric trains in the long term because hydrogen is a clean and recycled power source. In addition, Indian Railways is working on ecologically friendly transportation, which will make the trains greener in the future.
