YouTube Ends Support for These iPhones & iPads

Older iPhone and iPad models are no longer supported by YouTube due to a recent, covert app upgrade.

(YouTube will no longer support certain iPad and iPhone models.)

Older iPhone and iPad models are no longer supported by YouTube due to a recent, covert app upgrade. Since the most recent version of YouTube, 20.22.1, requires iOS 16 or higher, it can no longer be used on Apple devices running iOS 15. This change will prevent users of the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and first-generation iPhone SE from installing or updating the YouTube app. Additionally, the software will no longer work with the 7th-generation iPod Touch, which is still running iOS 15.

Additionally, YouTube won’t function on these iPad devices.

iPadOS 16 or later is now required for iPad users, according to YouTube. As a result, this updated app version will no longer work with older iPad models, such as the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. The most recent version of the YouTube app will no longer function on these devices, even if they are still regarded as suitable for everyday use.

Users can still visit YouTube via a mobile browser by going to m.youtube.com, even though the YouTube app won’t work on certain devices. However, this approach will not provide the app’s benefits, such as seamless navigation, offline video storage, and improved streaming capabilities.

This shift suggests that the majority of app developers are now concentrating on cutting-edge gadgets. YouTube’s move coincides with Apple’s official declaration that the iPhone 6 is “obsolete,” meaning that it is no longer eligible for any official repairs or services.

What is the cause?

It’s interesting to note that a few days earlier, WhatsApp did the same. As of right now, this software is only compatible with iPhones running iOS 15.1 or later, and Android 5.0 or later is required for Android phones. The new WhatsApp version will no longer work with numerous smartphones that were released before 2014, including the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X, and Sony Xperia Z.

What was said by Meta?

According to Meta, outdated devices lack the technical and security features that modern apps need. Devices with a poor user base or outdated hardware are being phased out of support as the firm periodically assesses which are viable to support. When even necessary programs like YouTube and WhatsApp are abandoning their devices, it may be time for those who still own such outdated gadgets to upgrade.
