WTC Final 2025: Record Shocks Fans!

Australia and South Africa are playing their final World Test Championship 2025 match at Lord’s Ground. Fast bowlers dominated the first day, taking 14 wickets in total. Together, the two teams set an odd record at this time. With his incisive bowling, Kagiso Rabada dismissed five Kangaroo batsmen. Australia then launched a fierce retaliation.

The opening day of the WTC Final 2025 between South Africa and Australia was dominated by fast bowlers. On the opening day at Lord’s, 14 wickets were lost.

Australia was asked to play first, and the Kangaroo squad was bowled out for 212 runs in the first innings by Kagiso Rabada (5 wickets) and Marco Jansen (3 wickets). On the first day, South Africa lost four wickets for 43 runs before the stumps. While Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood both claimed one wicket, Mitchell Starc claimed two.

After 145 years, for the first time

On the opening day of the WTC Final 2025, an odd record was set. Both clubs’ openers were out without making an impact in the first inning for the first time in 145 years. Recall that in 1880, England and Australia played their first test match at The Oval in England.

The WTC final was the first time in 561 Test matches played in England when both sides’ top batsmen were dismissed without making an impact. Usman Khawaja of Australia and Aiden Markram of South Africa both scored runs in the first innings but were dismissed without making any runs. In 145 years, this was the first incidence.

It should be noted that this is the tenth time in Test history that both sides’ openers have left the pavilion without opening their accounts.

Excellent performance by Rabada

Let us tell you that Kagiso Rabada grabbed five wickets and had an outstanding performance for South Africa. In his 15.4 overs of bowling, he claimed five wickets for 51 runs. Kagiso Rabada carved his name on South African history during this time.

In Test cricket, Rabada became the fourth South African player to record the most wickets. Rabada, 30, claimed 322 wickets in 71 Test matches. Allan Donald was overtaken by him (330 wickets).

South Africa’s top wicket-taker in Test cricket

  • Shaun Pollock, 421
  • Makhaya Ntini, 390
  • Kagiso Rabada, 332
  • 330: Ellen Donald
