On Tuesday, Google Pay launched support for RuPay credit cards on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
Users can now use Google Pay to link their
RuPay credit cards and make purchases at any online or offline store that accepts RuPay credit cards. Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Union Bank of India customers with RuPay credit cards can now access the service, according to a statement from the business.
Google’s Director of Product Management,
Sharath Bulusu, claims that this function will give Google Pay users more payment options and flexibility. The adoption of digital payments in the nation will rise as a result. The RuPay credit card must be added to Google Pay for activation. The bank that issued the user’s RuPay credit card can be chosen by tapping on the “RuPay credit card on UPI” option on their profile.
After that, customers must set a special UPI PIN
by entering the last six digits of their card number and expiration as well as their bank’s OTP. According to NPCI’s Nalin Bansal, Chief Relationship Management and Key Initiatives, “the integration of RuPay Credit Card on UPI delivers a remarkable user experience seamlessly combining the convenience of UPI with the advantages of RuPay Credit Card.”
In June 2022, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
permitted the connection of RuPay credit cards to the UPI network. As UPI transactions reached 8.7 billion in March, the NPCI recorded a sharp increase in monthly transaction volume. UPI was used for 74 billion transactions of Rs. 125.94 trillion in the calendar year 2022, according to NPCI data.
