On May 24, Akash Madhwal grabbed five wickets for as many runs to help Mumbai Indians defeat Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in the second IPL playoff game. This victory eliminated Lucknow Super Giants from the competition.

added 66 runs to enable five-time winners Mumbai to reach 182-8 after they decided to bat first in the elimination match in Chennai.
After dismissing Lucknow for 101 with figures of 5-5 in 3.3 overs,
Madhwal secured Mumbai a spot in the upcoming play-off on May 26 against the incumbent Gujarat Titans. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will now square off in Ahmedabad on May 28 for the championship.
As they fell from 69-2 to be bowled out in 16.3 overs, losing three crucial wickets to run outs, Lucknow’s innings unraveled.
Green, who scored his first T20 century in IPL
for Mumbai’s previous victory, seemed in command throughout his 23-ball innings until he was forced to leave.
In a span of three deliveries, Naveen-ul-Haq,
who claimed four wickets for Lucknow, sent back Suryakumar and Green, both of whom were dismissed by a slower off-cutter from the Afghanistan fast bowler, to put Mumbai on the defensive.
When the league expanded to 10 teams last season,
Lucknow, who made their IPL debut alongside Gujarat, failed at the same barrier. In contrast to the largely full stadium on May 23, when host team M.S. Dhoni’s Chennai advanced to the final with a victory against Gujarat, the neutral location for both teams had many vacant seats.
