How can I join ISRO as a space scientist?

It is crucial for young people thinking about a career in science at ISRO to choose the correct path and study the necessary topics. ISRO typically seeks out applicants with strong knowledge and proficiency in the fields of astronomy, physics, and mathematics, whether through direct selection or the CRB test. Let’s have a look at the education and specialization requirements for individuals to work as scientists for ISRO, step by step.

Steps to Join ISRO as a Space Scientist

Step 1: Students must take PCM subjects (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) in the 10+2 level of secondary education.

Step 2: Students should enroll in one of the several engineering branches offered through JEE Advanced and JEE Mains after graduating from higher secondary school with a grade point average (CGPA) or percentage (above 75%). Students should pursue a B.Tech. or BE in courses like mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science engineering, electronics engineering, electrical engineering, engineering physics, radio engineering, and other related subjects, despite the fact that the list of top engineering courses is lengthy.

Step 3: Candidates who have earned a B.Tech

or BE degree must sit for the ISRO Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB) test. Candidates must have a B.Tech. or BE degree in computer science, electronics, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline with a minimum of 65% marks, or a 6.8 CGPA on a 10-point scale, in order to be eligible to take this test. To be accepted into the organization after the exam, shortlisted individuals must show up for a written test and an interview round.

Step 4: Those who have earned their Master’s (MSc, ME, or MTech) and Ph.D. in the relevant specialization have another option for becoming scientists at ISRO. Geophysics, Geoinformatics, Instrumentation, Applied Mathematics, and other popular MTech courses are only a few examples. A written exam and an interview are both parts of the ISRO scientist selection procedure.

ISRO

Step 5: Applicants may also submit an application

for the position of Junior Research Fellow with ISRO, which entitles them to do research in both science and engineering. The ISRO’s selection process for scientists is extremely competitive and demands of higher level of intelligence.

Candidates should be aware that ISRO favors hiring recent graduates from prestigious Indian engineering universities including IISc, IIT, NIT, IIST, and other public and private institutions. Therefore, earning an engineering degree will be advantageous since the company only hires people with stellar academic records.
