FASTag to end! GNSS system set to launch soon, toll payment methods will change

In India, in the car sector, something new is happening every day. Toll collection is also rising concurrently with this. Toll collection has up to now been done by traditional methods; however, the government is currently getting ready to implement Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology.

GNSS

The Global Navigation Satellite System

was previously unveiled by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. This system is reportedly undergoing testing at the moment. India can do away with the outdated toll technology once it arrives. Satellite systems will form the foundation for GNSS navigation. It will be equipped with a satellite-based gadget that cars will install. Through the technology, the authorities will have the ability to easily track when the car started using the toll highway. As soon as the vehicle leaves the toll road, the system will calculate the usage of the toll road and deduct the amount.

GNSS

The most unique feature of the GNSS system

is that it allows passengers to only pay for the actual distance they have traveled. Additionally, with its assistance, travelers will be able to calculate the toll they must pay and make the appropriate payment. Another benefit is that traditional toll booths, where frequently lengthy lines are used to form, will be eliminated with the use of this technology.

GNSS

When will the new system be available?

The government has not yet disclosed the date for this, although testing is now taking place on two of the nation’s main thoroughfares. These include the National Highways Panipat-Hisar (NH-709) in Haryana and Bengaluru-Mysore (NH-257) in Karnataka. As soon as the green signal is received from the government, it will be implemented in a phased manner.
