Delhi’s New Traffic Laws and Fines: In India, breaking traffic laws is a major cause of traffic accidents. Tighter traffic laws are one way the government is attempting to stop this.
Be cautious today if you disregard traffic laws when driving! On March 1, 2025, there will be a significant change to the traffic laws. On the social media site X, ACP Ashish Kumar of Karol Bagh, Delhi, posted the fine rate list with details.
The new regulations have established severe penalties and hefty fines for breaking numerous traffic laws. The penalties for driving under the influence, driving without a helmet, speeding, and failing to yield to emergency vehicles have all seen significant increases.
Strict penalties for driving under the influence
You will no longer be able to get away with a minor fine if you are driving after drinking. The new regulations stipulate that if you are caught for the first time, you could face a fine of ₹10,000 and/or six months in jail. On the other hand, you risk a fine of ₹15,000 and/or two years in prison if you repeat the same error. Previously, a fine of just 1000–1500 rupees was allowed.
Tight rules on not wearing a helmet or a seat belt
Additionally, there are now stricter regulations for drivers of two-wheelers. Now, driving without a helmet carries a ₹1,000 fine and a three-month license suspension. Additionally, failing to wear a seat belt in the vehicle would result in a ₹1,000 fine. It can now be considerably more costly to use a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle. This now carries a ₹5,000 fine instead of the previous ₹500.
What occurs if you are found to have unauthorized documents?
You could be subject to severe penalties if you lack the required paperwork for your car, such as your driver’s license, insurance, and pollution certificate: A fine of Rs 2,000, three months in jail, or both may be imposed for not possessing a valid insurance policy. A ₹4,000 fine will be imposed if the same infraction is discovered again. A ₹10,000 fine and/or six months in jail are also possible consequences of not having a valid pollution certificate.
You will be fined Rs 5,000 if you are found to be operating a vehicle without a license. However, triple riding (three individuals riding on one bike) will result in a punishment of Rs 1,000. You will be fined Rs 5,000 if you are found to have jumped a red signal. However, if you fail to yield to emergency vehicles (such as ambulances), you may be fined Rs 10,000.
The strictest regulations for children
A substantial fine of Rs 25,000 will be applied if someone under the age of 18 is found to be operating a motor vehicle. The penalties used to be just Rs 2,500. Additionally, the vehicle’s registration will be canceled for one year. Additionally, the minor driver won’t be able to obtain a driver’s license until they turn 25.
