UPSC: Before the interview, you must complete a form as part of the UPSC exam, which is crucial to your selection. Being extremely attentive when filling out this form is essential because even a minor error could cost you a lot in the interview.

UPSC Mains 2025: One of the most prominent tests in the nation is the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. Candidates must pass the preliminary, main, and interview phases in order to be hired by the UPSC. All of these phases are crucial, but a form completed after the first exam—which is frequently ignored—can make all the difference in a candidate’s success. This document, known as the Detailed Application Form (DAF), serves as the basis for the interview questions.

For applicants who completed the Combined Geo-Scientist Exam 2025 Mains, the commission has opened the window for completing the Detailed Application Form (DAF). Until August 12, 2025, candidates who passed the main test can complete this form by going to upsconline.gov.in.

UPSC DAF: What is it?

Detailed Application Form is what UPSC DAF stands for. Candidates who pass the UPSC Mains exam must fill out this form. The candidate must fill out this form with details on his educational background, family, employment history, hobbies, involvement in sports or other extracurricular activities, and preferred service (IAS, IPS, IFS, etc.). This form must be filled out completely and truthfully because it will be the basis for many of the interview questions.

View the detailed instructions for filling out the DAF form here.

Step 1: Go to the official website.
First, go to https://upsconline.gov.in, the UPSC’s official website.

Step 2: Sign in
The “DAF for Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2025” link should be clicked. Next, enter your password and registration number to log in.

Step 3: Begin completing the form.
The DAF form will open after you log in. Carefully provide your personal information, educational background, employment history (if any), preferred services or posts, etc.

Step 4: Add files
A photo, signature, caste certificate (if applicable), PwD certificate, and other scanned documents should be uploaded in the format and size specified.

Step 5: Complete the declaration
Carefully read and agree to the declaration at the conclusion of the form.

Step 6: Print the form and submit it.
After double-checking all the data, press the Submit button. Once the form has been submitted, make sure you have a printout of it on hand.

Avoid these five errors when completing the UPSC DAF form.

  1. Exaggerating or providing inaccurate information: Don’t overstate your accomplishments, background, or interests. On that basis, the interview board will ask questions, and it might backfire if discovered.
  2. Completing missing or ambiguous information: Clearly and fully answer all of the DAF’s questions. Inaccurate information could result in the form being rejected or cause misunderstanding during the interview.
  3. Uploading incorrect documents: Make sure to upload documents in the size and format specified by the form. Files that are scanned incorrectly or with blur can cause issues.
  4. Ignoring your interests: During the interview, you can be asked detailed questions about the pastimes you listed on the form. Therefore, only write about things that you truly enjoy.
  5. Not checking the form before submitting it: Make sure there are no typos or errors by carefully reading the complete information again before submitting the form.
