The mid-size SUV market in India is still very popular. Every month, new models join the competition, yet older cars still rule the market. This is demonstrated by the August 2025 sales report. The best-selling SUV was once again the Hyundai Creta. The Tata Harrier and Toyota Hyryder saw notable increases in sales as well. The sales of the top five SUVs in this market segment will be examined.
The Hyundai Creta continues to hold the top spot.
The Hyundai Creta is actually at the top of this ranking. It sold 15,924 units in August 2025. That being said, it sold 16,762 units in August 2024, which is a 5% year-over-year decrease. The Creta continues to dominate the market and be popular in spite of this.
Second place went to the Mahindra Scorpio.
In August 2025, 9,840 Mahindra Scorpios were sold, placing it in second place. However, as compared to the 13,787 units sold in August 2024, this number indicates a roughly 29% decrease. The Scorpio is still a powerful vehicle in its class in spite of this.
The state of the Toyota Hyryder
In August 2025, the Toyota Hyryder sold 9,100 units, placing it in third position. At 6,534 units in August 2024, this number indicates a rise of almost 39% year over year. The popularity of the Hyryder is being driven by hybrid technology and rising fuel efficiency.
Despite a drop, Maruti Grand Vitara is in the top four.
Fourth place went to the Maruti Grand Vitara. In August 2025, this hybrid SUV sold 5,743 units, while in August 2024, it sold 9,021 units. This amounts to a 36% decrease. In spite of this, the SUV was able to hold onto its ranking in the top 5. The Mahindra XUV 700 was still ranked fifth. In August 2024, 9,007 apartments were sold; in August 2025, just 4,956 units were sold. This is a 45% yearly decrease.
