Fake Calls and SMS:
In today’s digital age, fake calls and fraudulent messages have become a major problem for people. Cyber criminals impersonate banks, insurance companies, or government agencies to trap people. However, the government has now found a solution to this problem. The Indian government has launched the “Sanchar Sathi” portal and mobile app, which allows anyone to easily identify and report fraudulent calls and messages.

How to identify a fake call:
The government recently introduced the 160 series, which is only for genuine calls related to banking, insurance, and financial services. If you receive a call purporting to be a bank or insurance company and the number doesn’t start with 160, it could be a fraudulent call. Immediately report such a number to the “Chakshu” section of the Sanchar Sathi portal or app. Once reported, the number is blocked to prevent further harm.

How to identify real and fake SMS:
Identifying fake SMS is now easy. You just need to pay attention to the sender code of the message. Genuine messages usually end with a code like -S, -G, or -P. If this code is missing, don’t trust the message.
Know the meaning of these codes
S (Service): This code is for messages that are related to your banking or telecom service, such as OTP, transaction alerts, etc.
G (Government): This is for genuine messages related to government schemes, government notifications or alerts.
P (Promotion): These are promotional messages that come only from government-approved companies such as banks, e-commerce sites or telecom operators.

Avoid clicking on fake links:
Scammers often send messages containing tempting offers or fake links. Clicking on these links can install malware on your phone that can steal your personal information, bank details, or passwords. Therefore, be sure to check the source of the message before clicking on any unknown link.
