GUIDELINES FOR NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS IN KARNATAKA WILL BE ISSUED TODAY: MINISTER

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government will announce guidelines for new year parties today, to restrict the further spread of coronavirus, Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Sunday. Speaking with the media, Bommai said, “The guidelines will be issued tomorrow (Monday). The purpose is to avoid a huge gathering of people at public places giving room for coronavirus to spread quickly.”

To a query, the minister said planning large parties at public places will be banned. The state, which has seen a massive decrease in the COVID-19 cases, is on the guard following the appearance of a new variant of the virus in Britain.

Ahead of Christmas and New Year, the state government had announced guidelines on December 17 citing the current coronavirus situation.

The guidelines banned parties, special DJ dance programs, and special events at clubs, pubs, restaurants, and other places that bring people in large numbers without social distancing from December 30 to January 2.

Grouping of people at public places and roads for celebrations stands banned.

The state government had also chosen to inflict a night curfew across the state. but announced its abandonment just six hours before it was to kick in.
