Google Chrome Users Beware! CERT-IN has a Warning for You

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced that Google Chrome users may be on the radar for some potential cyber-attacks given the vulnerability in the browser’s security. Google Chrome is the most popular browser in the world, with a high daily active user base, which makes the CERT-IN warning important. The Indian agency cites potential cyber vulnerabilities inherent in the browser’s security setup as well as some critical bugs that exposed flaws that allowed attackers to execute an arbitrary code on the target device.

CERT-IN issues warning to Google Chrome users
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has announced vulnerabilities related to the popular web browser, Google Chrome. The Indian agency has classified the security gap with a security rating, “High”, and added a note to it, “Several vulnerabilities have been reported in Google Chrome that allows.

Cybercriminals are expected to attack targeted devices through these existing flaws in versions of Google Chrome prior to 98.0.4758.80. CERT-IN suggests that these vulnerabilities exist for free use in Safe Browsing, Reader Mode, Web Search, Thumbnail Tab Strip, Screen Capture, Windowed Dialogs, Paid, Extensions, Accessibility, and Cast; Heap buffer overflow in ANGLE; Inappropriate implementation in full-screen mode, scroll, extension platform, and pointer lock; Type Confusion in V8; Policy bypass in COOP and memory access out of bounds in V8.

Google fixes Chrome’s vulnerabilities with an update
Google has released updates and rolled out patches and bug fixes to combat these issues. The details of the bug fix are kept secret until most active Google Chrome users update their software to take advantage of the upgraded security. Google has also announced that it will withhold details if vulnerabilities persist in third-party libraries and other projects rely on it.

Google Chrome users are advised to resort to immediate updating of their software to protect their system. New and updated versions – Chrome 98.0.4758.80/81/82 for Windows and 98.0.4758.80 for macOS and Linux; These new versions get the latest improvements. The update has been announced on February 1 and will be rolled out to the users gradually.
