Twitter has announced several initiatives to empower citizens with the right knowledge before casting their vote in the upcoming assembly elections in five states. Twitter has started a special emoji and search prompt to make people aware.

Legislative Assembly elections are to be held in 5 states of the country from February 10. For this, the Election Commission has issued a notification. At the same time, voters are being made aware to cast maximum votes. Meanwhile, Twitter on Thursday announced several initiatives to empower citizens with the right knowledge before casting their vote in the upcoming assembly elections in five states. 

Elections to be held in five states including UP

Let us tell you that the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur, and Goa will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7, and counting of votes will be done on March 10. Altogether 690 assembly seats will go to the polls and 18.3 crore people, including 8.5 crore women, will be eligible to vote in the five states.

Voters’ problems will be eased

Twitter said in a statement that “when elections are held, people turn to Twitter to find credible information about voting, to learn about candidates and their manifestos, and to engage in healthy citizen discussions and conversations.” As a service for public conversation, Twitter is committed to enabling people to make the right decisions while exercising their civil rights.

Will launch special emoji

Twitter’s move, powered by the open internet, is not only focused on ensuring high turnout but will also help ensure that voters are involved and informed throughout the election cycle. Twitter will also introduce a special emoji to help voters.

Search prompt has also been started

Apart from this, with the help of a voter quiz, people will be made aware of essential facts about the election, the statement said. Twitter said it has launched a ‘Search Prompt’ in collaboration with the Election Commission of India and Chief Electoral Officers to make it easier to find reliable and authoritative information for assembly elections.

When people search with related keywords on Twitter’s Explore page, this ‘Search Prompt’ will provide reliable, authoritative sources of information and will lead people to resources where they can search for candidate lists, polling dates, polling stations, and more. Search prompt will be in Hindi, Punjabi, Konkani, and English languages

Apart from English, this ‘search prompt’ will be available in Hindi, Punjabi, and Konkani and will have multiple hashtags. In addition, Twitter will organize several workshops and training sessions in five states aimed at combating misinformation related to elections.
