Indian Army personnel rescued a 23-year-old boy trapped in a crevice of a hill for two days without food and water. R Babu went on a trek with his friends on 7 February. He later got stuck on the steep face of a valley in Kerala’s Palakkad district. Babu and his friends started climbing Cherad Hill, who had left halfway. Babu kept climbing even after his friends left the trek and reached the top but slipped off the hill and got stuck between two rocks. According to NDTV reports, the man has been trapped for 24 hours, and video of a drone shows him sitting in a precarious position on a cliff.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tried several times to get the army involved in the man’s rescue. Several attempts were made from Kochi including efforts by Coast Guard, Fire Unit, Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), but they were not enough to rescue the man. The Kerala CM also spoke about the incident and said that efforts are in full swing to save the youth.

He informed from his official Twitter handle that efforts are in full swing to rescue the person. Many people took selfies and showed the victory sign. In a video shared by ANI, R Babu, sitting among the army personnel said, “Thank you very much, Indian Army.” In a gesture of thanks, he kisses the soldiers and supports them with the slogan “Indian Army ki Jai, Bharat Mata ki Jai”. Describing the rescue operation, Lt Gen A Arun, CMO, South India Zone, said, “Teams from Bengaluru Parachute Regiment Center were mobilized. Additionally, a skilled high-altitude combat team and highly experienced mountaineers were mobilized to Madras Regiment Center in Wellington.
According to him, the army team lasted the whole night and when it was dawn, the drones and cameras were able to trace the exact location of the man. Two men from the Madra Regimental team trotted down a distance of 250 feet until they reached Babu, and opted to drag the young man up the hill instead of taking him down the hill. He was almost physically, physically picked up by two members of the team of this descent,” said Lt Gen A Arun.
