Agneepath Scheme: The Cabinet Committee has approved a new recruitment scheme to make the Indian Army more youthful and expert in new technologies. The new recruitment to the post of constable will now be under the Agneepath scheme and the soldiers recruited under it will be called Agniveer. They will get an opportunity to serve in the army for four years, but 25 percent of them will get a chance to serve in the army for longer. After four years of service, he will get a lump sum amount, and a certificate of technical competency, which will help him land a new job in the corporate world. The first recruitment under this scheme will be announced within 90 days.
There will be a reduction in the age of officers in the army
As one of the biggest changes in the Indian Army, the Agneepath scheme aims to reduce the average age of soldiers serving in the ranks of the Army. Presently the average age of a soldier is 32 years but in the new recruitment scheme, it will be reduced to 26 years. Keeping the ranks more youthful is essential for Indian forces engaged in continuous military operations. Under the Agneepath scheme, youth in the age group of 17.5 to 21 years will be recruited, who will get an opportunity of 4 years of military service including 6 months of training. In the first year, Agniveer will get a monthly salary of Rs 30,000, out of which Rs 9,000 will be deposited in the service fund. The army will also deposit the same amount in Agniveer’s account. 33,000 thousand in the second year, Rs 36,500 per month in the third year, and Rs 40,000 per month to Agniveer in the fourth year. Along with ration, uniform and traveling allowance will be given as per rules.
The amount will be available in the service fund after 4 years
An amount of 11.71 lakh will be given to Agniveer as a service fund on completion of four years and it will be tax-free. Agniveer will not get the benefit of pension or gratuity but will be given insurance of Rs 48 lakh during military service. A grant of Rs 44 lakh will also be given on death during military service.
Changes in the centuries-old regiment
The Agneepath scheme also changes the tradition of the centuries-old regiment of the Indian Army. At present, there are many infantry regiments that recruit soldiers from a particular region, caste or religion. In Armored and Artillery also such recruitment is done in some regiments. But under the Agneepath plan, every regiment would be recruited from all over India and the marshal and a non-martial class of the British era would be completely abolished.
Efforts have been made to increase the opportunities for other jobs for the youth.
On being recruited under this scheme when they come out of the army. Agniveer will be given technical training, a diploma, or further opportunities during his army job, which will make it easier for him to make a place in the corporate world. The Defense Ministry is approaching many big companies for this.
The three armies welcomed
The Defense Minister said that this scheme is historic for the Army and it will provide new employment opportunities to the youth. The three army chiefs present in the press conference welcomed this plan and said that it would make it possible to recruit more technically capable youth in the army.
The youth, who are currently recruited in the ranks of the Indian Army, compulsorily serve 15 years and after that, they can go back with a pension. But the old soldiers were becoming a problem for the Indian Army engaged in increasingly difficult military operations. This problem has been completely resolved in the new scheme.
