Along with the establishment of Ganesh ji on this day, Kalank Chaturthi or Chauth Chaturthi is also celebrated. This year there is confusion regarding the dates, on which Chauth Chandra and Kalank Chaturthi will be celebrated on 30th August and Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated a day later on 31st August. There is a belief associated with the moon on the day of Kalank Chaturthi. According to this, seeing the moon is said to be forbidden. Let us know the reason behind this belief.
… that’s why the moon is not visible on the day of Kalank Chaturthi
According to the Puranas, the moon should not be seen on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. By doing this a person becomes stigmatized and he loses his honor and respect. That’s why this Chaturthi is called Kalank Chaturthi. The reason behind this is the curse given to the moon by Lord Ganesha.
This is the story of Kalank Chaturthi
Once upon seeing Ganesh’s bloated stomach and gazmukh form, Moon laughed. Ganesha got angry on this and he cursed the moon. He said that you are very proud of your appearance, so you will perish and no one will see you. If someone sees you, he will be stigmatized. Due to this curse, the size of the moon started decreasing, then the moon worshiped Shiva to get rid of the curse. Shiva advised Moon to worship Ganesha. Then Ganesh Ji said that the effect of my curse will not end, but I reduce its effect. With this, you will keep rotting for 15 days but then you will get the full form while growing. Also, whoever sees you on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month will be tarnished. Since then the Sun decreases for 15 days and rises for 15 days. Also, the moon is not visible on the Chaturthi of Bhadrapada month and since then it was named Kalank Chaturthi.
