Tata Blackbird SUV: Some media reports are claiming that Tata Motors is working on a new SUV for the domestic market, which will be based on the currently sold Tata Nexon but will be a bigger SUV. Actually, there is tough competition in the mid-size SUV segment in the Indian market as there are many cars in the market like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushk, and Nissan Kicks. To give real competition to these cars, Tata will bring a large Nexon-based coupe-style SUV, which is currently being known as the Blackbird (Blackbird – ‘Kali Chidiya’).
Tata may place it between the sub-4 meter SUV Nexon and the 4.6 meters-long SUV Harrier in its portfolio. It can grow up to 4.3 meters long. Rumors about this have been going on for a long time. It could be based on the X1 platform similar to the Nexon but will have a bigger cabin and bigger bootspace than the Nexon. According to reports, it is likely to get new styling and a coupe-ish roofline to make it stand out from the Nexon.
The exterior of the Tata Nexon Coupe/Blackbird could get a redesigned front and rear. It is expected to share body panels with the standard Nexon including A-pillars and front doors. Apart from this, a new 1.5-liter petrol engine can be used in this. This engine will be an advance from Nexon’s 1.2-litre Revotron engine. It will be tuned to generate around 160 hp power. Transmission options may include MT and AT.
