Delhi residents have experienced a shock. Actually, the cost of electricity would now increase for Delhi residents. Due to an eight percent increase in Delhi’s cost of power purchase, consumers who use more than 200 units per month will now pay higher rates. Atishi, the electricity minister for Delhi, disclosed this information. He claimed that the central government’s’mismanagement’ had increased the cost of the electricity provided to Delhi, forcing consumers to pay higher rates as a result.
Cost of electricity
She did note that clients whose monthly consumption is under 200 units won’t be affected by the pricing increase. In Delhi, the Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC) has increased by 8%. Every three months, this rate is updated, and depending on the price of coal and gas being used to generate power at the time, the price of electricity may go up or down.
Homegrown coal
“I want to inform Delhi’s electricity users that the central government is solely to blame for this increase in the electricity bill,” Atishi added. The power plants are now forced to use imported coal since it is less expensive than domestic coal. It costs ten times as much as coal.
Usage of electricity
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s state spokesperson in Delhi, Harish Khurana, however, blamed the ‘nexus’ between the power distribution firms and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration for the increase in electricity rates. Customers in Delhi who use up to 200 units of power are given it for free by the AAP government, and those who use 201 to 400 units are granted a rebate at half the cost.
