The best-selling full-size SUV in India, the Toyota Fortuner, will get a generational makeover. While the specifics of the formal introduction and launch have not yet been disclosed, it is anticipated that the new model will be introduced globally in late 2024, with an early 2025 launch in India. This new generation update has several significant changes.
Ready for the upcoming platform
The TNGA-F architecture will underpin the next Toyota Fortuner, unlike the current model’s IMV platform. The new Tacoma pickup truck, Land Cruiser 300 SUV, and Lexus LX500d have all been built on this chassis. Multiple body shapes and engine types, such as hybrid and internal combustion engines (ICE), are supported with the TNGA-F platform. Toyota has unveiled a Fortuner variant that features mild hybrid technology recently. With a 48V system, 2.8-liter diesel engine, and electric motor generator, this model can produce up to 500Nm of torque and 201bhp of maximum power. The car’s power output is increased by 16 horsepower and 42 Nm by the mild hybrid system. Nevertheless, the SUV’s off-road and towing capacities are unaffected by this configuration. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the regenerative braking system would enhance its overall efficiency.
There will be two drivetrain options
for the 2019 Toyota Fortuner: rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4X4). A 6-speed automatic gearbox will be mated to the mild hybrid powerplant. The 4X4 arrangement of the 2.8-liter diesel engine will be able to provide a mileage of 12.65 km. Whereas the mild hybrid version of the engine is claimed to provide a mileage of 13.15 km.
There will be more safety features.
The Toyota Safety Suite, which adds ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) features including Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beam, and Road Warning, will significantly improve the Fortuner. Included are functions like proactive driving assistance and sign assistance. Additionally, the new Toyota Fortuner will be equipped with a Vehicle Stability Control system, which lowers the chance of rollover and skidding. For improved control and economy, an electric power-assisted steering system will take the place of the hydraulic one.
