The command was assumed by Rohit in 2021.
Following the Indian team’s elimination from the T20 World Cup 2021 group stage, Rohit was named India’s captain in November of that same year. Before the current T20 World Cup, in 2022, he was the captain of Team India, who advanced to the semi-finals. Rohit wants to add another T20 World Cup 2024 trophy to India’s collection this year. Dhoni captained the team to the most recent ICC championship.
Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, India emerged victorious in the inaugural T20 World Cup season in 2007. Pakistan was defeated by India in the final. Additionally, Rohit was a part of that victory. Since then, India has not been able to win the T20 World Cup. Now after 17 years, India has a chance to become the champion again. This time the command is in Rohit’s hands. India also won the last ICC trophy under Dhoni’s captaincy. Team India has not been able to win the ICC title of any format since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
