Economic Survey 2025: Nationwide Metro Rail Projects Are Accelerated by the Government’s Five-Year Plan

Economic Survey 2025: In the upcoming general budget, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP government may open the treasury box for nationwide metro rail projects. It is anticipated that a five-year plan will be introduced to establish the framework for metro rail initiatives throughout the nation. Its goal is to improve India’s intercity and metro rapid rail connections.

The nation’s rapid rail and metro systems will develop quickly.

Currently, there are 23 cities spread across 11 states with a 1,000-kilometer metro and quick rail network. Other than this, 985 kilometres of development is still ongoing. For the fiscal year 2024–2025, the government has invested Rs 24,785.94 crore in metro rail and fast transit system projects. On condition of anonymity, a senior official told the Times of India that the government aims to improve metro connectivity in order to lessen traffic in urban areas. The budget for 2025–2026 is probably going to include a specific plan to accomplish this.

India accomplished this.

State and federal governments collaborate on the nation’s rapid rail and metro projects. According to government representatives, the current rail network will double in size this year. According to official data, in 2022 alone, India’s metro train network surpassed Japan’s in length. In terms of length, India’s metro rail system is the third longest in the world. India’s current goal is to rank second on this list. By the end of 2024, metro rail projects in Delhi, Bengaluru, Thane, and Pune have been approved by the Union Cabinet.

Let us inform you that on February 1, 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will deliver the general budget to Parliament.
