Canada Immigration Regulations: Due to these adjustments, border officials have the authority to annul documents like Electronic Travel Authorizations (eTAs) and Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs).
Indian students’ Study Permits: Canada has implemented some changes to its immigration regulations, which could impact thousands of Indian students, workers, and tourists. The authorities now have increased power to revoke study and work permits in specific situations.
The new regulations are effective as of January 31, 2025. In addition, the Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa program will be discontinued at the end of 2024. The SDS program expedited student visa processing, as it required upfront financial proof, such as Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs), for tuition and living costs.

Due to these changes, border officials have the authority to revoke documents like Electronic Travel Authorizations (eTAs) and Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs).
These circumstances allow for the cancellation of a visa.
- Substantiating untrue statements, possessing a criminal history, or demise.
- Should the officer think that the individual will not exit Canada following his/her designated timeframe?
- If the document is lost, stolen, damaged, or issued because of an administrative error.
- At this point, a temporary resident transitions to permanent residency.
- In the event of a cancellation of the student’s work or study visa.
- A report indicates that the new regulations could result in around 7,000 more temporary resident visas, work permits, and study permits being canceled.

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), individuals impacted will receive notifications via their IRCC account or email.
Should a student, worker, or migrant’s visa be revoked, they will be halted upon entry and returned to their country.
If an individual’s permit is revoked while they are already studying, working, or residing in Canada, they will receive a notice requiring them to exit the country by a specified date.
