Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw claims that the Railways’ implementation of cutting-edge signaling systems, real-time monitoring, AI-driven scheduling, and predictive maintenance has allowed them to achieve an on-time performance of above 90%. Out of 68 railway divisions, 49 have now surpassed 80% of “punctuality,” and 12 have reached 95%, the Union Minister informed the Lok Sabha.

He also emphasized the Kolkata Metro’s notable growth, noting that 38 km of new metro lines have been installed in just ten years, compared to 28 km for the previous forty-two.

The ‘transition from diesel to electric traction’ has been a significant step in this direction, with 97% of railway operations already electrified and the remaining 3% almost finished. The Union Minister claims that Indian Railways is in a strong position to fulfill its net zero goal ahead of schedule, with predicted emissions for 2024–2025 reaching 20 lakh tonnes and available offsets reaching 22 lakh tonnes.
