WhatsApp to Let You Chat Without Revealing Your Number

It’s unclear right now if you’ll be able to keep your number hidden from all of your contacts. If a new person contacts you on WhatsApp without your number, they will only be able to view your username, according to the information that has just surfaced.

WhatsApp has been a free messaging app for a while, and each year it adds new and helpful features. With features like chat locks, companion device integration, and disappearing messages, the app has been continuously improving to meet user demands. WhatsApp is currently preparing to release another significant privacy update that could significantly alter how it is used.

WhatsApp has been a free messaging app for a while

WhatsApp now uses your username rather than your phone number to identify you.

WhatsApp is currently developing a feature that will enable users to conceal their mobile numbers. A username system is being introduced for this purpose. Once this functionality is implemented, you will be able to communicate with anyone using simply your username and not your mobile number. WA Beta Information has provided information about this feature, which is presently in the beta testing phase. The general public will soon be able to use this service as well.

Understand how this new functionality will function.

  • On WhatsApp, users will have the opportunity to choose a unique username.
  • The username cannot start with “www” and must have at least one character.
  • Usernames can only contain lowercase letters, digits, underscores (_), and periods (.).
  • Following the creation of the username, a confetti animation will also show up.
  • Similar to what already occurs when you change your profile image or phone number, a system message will be issued to your conversation if you alter your username later.

Will anyone be able to see the number?

It’s unclear right now if you’ll be able to keep your number private from all of your contacts. If a new person contacts you on WhatsApp without your number, they will only be able to view your username, according to the information that has just surfaced. With this functionality, WhatsApp will also introduce a new tool that will allow you to check if a username is available. In the future, WhatsApp Web may also have this feature.

WhatsApp

Date of launch?

This feature’s official launch date has not yet been disclosed, however, it is reportedly nearing completion. Users of WhatsApp will have a great degree of privacy once this function becomes live, as it will enable them to connect without disclosing personal information.
