Why Married Women Tie Kalava on Left Hand – Know the Reason

The scientific view of tying Kalava is that by tying it, it controls the nerves of the body. Whereas religious beliefs consider it a protective thread which protects the person who ties it in every situation. It is auspicious for men and unmarried girls to tie Kalava in the right hand and married women in the left hand.

There is a rule of tying Mauli i.e. Kalava in the hand before any religious ritual. But, why is this Kalava tied? Kalava is tied in the right hand of men and unmarried girls. Whereas, why is it tied in the left hand of married women?

What is the benefit of tying Kalava? What is the rule of tying it? Which mantra should be chanted while tying Kalava and which is the auspicious day to remove Kalava? If you also have such questions in your mind, then today we are going to tell you all the rules about it.

Understand the scientific and religious reasons

If we talk about scientific point of view, then tying Kalava controls some nerves of the body. It provides health benefits. On the other hand, if we talk about religious beliefs, then Kalava is a sacred thread, which is also called Raksha Sutra. It is tied with the feeling that it protects the person.

It is considered auspicious for married women to have Kalava in their left hand. Actually, after marriage, she gets a place on the left side of her husband, so Kalava is tied in her left hand. It brings happiness in her married life and gives longevity to her husband. On the other hand, Kalava is tied in the right hand of men and girls.

Rules for tying Kalava

While getting the Kalava tied, take Dakshin in one hand and close your fist. Keep the other hand on the head. After the Kalava is tied, give the Dakshin to the Pandit. Kalava should be wrapped around the hand in an odd number of times i.e. 3 times, 5 times or 7 times.

While tying the Raksha Sutra, “Yen Baddho Bali Raja Danavendro Mahabalah. Ten Twan Abhibadhnami Rakshe Ma Chal Ma Chal.” Mantra should be chanted. It means that I bind you with the same thread with which the great powerful Danavendra King Bali was tied. Hey Rakshasutra! You remain steady, remain steady.”

The most auspicious day for opening the Kalwa is Tuesday and Saturday. After opening the Kalwa, a new Kalwa should be made and the removed Kalwa should be placed under a Peepal tree or immersed in some flowing water.
