The initiative by Meta Platforms to create a smartwatch with a camera has resumed. This is the same project that was terminated a few months after it began in 2021. A recent source claims that development of the Meta Smartwatch has resumed and that it would be ready to go on sale in September 2025 as an accessory to the Meta AI Glasses.
What is the launch date and location?
The source suggests that Meta may introduce its smartwatch at the Meta Connect conference, which is scheduled for September 17–18 in the United States. This device’s primary manufacturer is reportedly the Chinese company Huaqin Technology.

What characteristics will it have?
- According to the rumor, this wristwatch might have a built-in camera, setting it apart from the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch.
- AI features like gesture recognition and real-time visual processing can also be added via the camera.
- As per the design that was unveiled earlier, the screen will be curved at the edges and the camera will be placed below the display.
There will also be a tactile button on the right side of the smartwatch.
Nevertheless, the accounts have inconsistencies. The same rumor goes on to state that it is uncertain if the smartwatch will be unveiled at the Meta Connect event. Thus, there is still some uncertainty over this device’s future.
Why was the last project abandoned?
In June 2022, the project was put on hold. The technology that was intended to translate the impulses from the wrist veins into digital commands was reportedly experiencing technical issues due to the smartwatch’s second camera.
