Income Tax Filing Deadline: The deadline for filing an income tax return (ITR) is today, September 15, 2025. Over 6 crore returns have been filed thus far. The Income Tax Department has also set up a round-the-clock assistance service for taxpayers to prevent any last-minute scrambling. Additionally, there is conjecture that the return filing date might be further extended. But as of yet, no formal statement has been made regarding this.
The income tax portal is currently experiencing some issues. A large number of taxpayers and chartered accountants are unable to download their Annual Information Statement (AIS). But not all taxpayers are affected by the issue, and it does not affect the entire system. Such issues might be encountered by taxpayers attempting to log in simultaneously. The server frequently becomes overloaded as a result of heavy usage.
People are submitting their ITRs quickly because there are just two days left to file returns. Even if the portal functions correctly in this case, it cannot manage the requests of numerous taxpayers at once. It can be compared to a four- to six-lane freeway, where some cars are traveling at a high pace and others are moving slowly because of traffic congestion.
The only method to download AIS is to go to the AIS Compliance Portal (https://ais.insight.gov.in/complianceportal/ais) after logging into the e-filing ITR portal, as the Income Tax Department announced on social media on September 13, 2025, that AIS can no longer be downloaded using any third-party software tool. Nonetheless, several customers report that the portal opens without any issues and that downloading AIS takes only a few seconds. Meanwhile, it can take up to ten minutes for certain users to download AIS.

Browsers such as Google Chrome (88+), Mozilla Firefox (86+), Microsoft Edge (version 88 or higher), or Opera (66+) can be used. In addition, you can utilize the most recent versions of Linux or Mac OS, or Windows 7 or later. Additionally, if at all possible, use a high-speed Ethernet connected connection and keep your browser’s cookies and site data clear.
