In the event that Rahul is unavailable for the first two Asia Cup games, Ishan Kishan may also be used as the opening batsman. He opened the innings with Shubman Gill in India’s most recent ODI series against the West Indies and made a positive impact.

Ishan Kishan had amassed 184 runs at an average of 61.33. 52, 55, and 77 run innings totaling 50 innings were played by him. In contrast, Rohit Sharma received rest throughout the West Indies series. The management of the Indian team must take Kishan’s batting order into consideration because Rohit will undoubtedly start as an opener now that he is back. Kishan did a good job starting the inning. Kishan should bat first since he may put India in a strong position early on with his freewheeling batting in the Asia Cup. If Kishan bats first, Gill and Virat Kohli must bat at numbers three and four, respectively. Shreyas Iyer, who has recovered from an injury, will therefore bat at position number five. Hardik Pandya will bat at number six in this scenario, and Suryakumar Yadav won’t be able to join the team.
Despite Suryakumar’s inability to perform
to expectations in ODIs so far, his skills have allowed the team to keep him on. Iyer could have to wait a time to get back on the pitch if the club administration wants to keep him in the starting 11. India can also work on a different solution. When Kohli bats at number four and Iyer at number five, he can field Kishan at number three. In such a case, the innings will be started by Rohit and Gill.
Kishan may also bat in the middle order in the Asia Cup.
He is batting at position four and has two half-centuries to his credit in four innings. He can potentially start from position five, but in the 17 ODIs he has played so far, he has not come out to bat at this number.
