In May 2023, BMW unveiled its eighth-generation BMW 5 Series lineup. Over a year later, the business formally declared that this popular sedan would make its Indian debut on July 24. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which is offered as LWB in India, will be directly rivaled by the new 5 Series when it arrives in a long wheelbase (LWB) configuration.
Interior design
With the introduction of BMW 5 Series India will become the second market after China to receive the 5 Series in LWB configuration. Previously, in April 2024, the i5, the new 5 Series’ electrified variant, made its debut in India. The 2024 BMW 5 Series’ exterior characteristics include the iconic kidney grille design and redesigned headlights with twin C-shaped LED DRLs, chunky front bumper with silver inserts, new alloy wheels, illuminated grille, new wraparound two-piece LED taillights, and ‘5’ badge on the C-pillar. Inside the new generation 5 Series, you will get a 14.9-inch freestanding touchscreen system, a 12.3-inch fully digital driver console, reclining rear seats, four-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof and a foldable 31.1-inch display for second-row passengers.
Drivetrain
Anticipated powertrain possibilities for the new 5 Series include 2.0-liter turbo-petrol and diesel engines, mated to a mild hybrid setup. Across the range, an 8-speed automatic transmission will be offered.
With whom will he compete?
It will go up against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class at launch, which comes in three different models: Expression, Exclusive, and the brand-new AMG Line. While the last variation is exclusively offered with a diesel engine, the previous two variants are available with both gasoline and diesel engines. They are priced between Rs 63.6 lakh and Rs 80.9 lakh ex-showroom. 2.0-liter gasoline (E200) or diesel (E220d) engines are available for the Expression and Exclusive models of the E-Class. The gasoline engine generates 320 Nm of torque and 197 PS of power, however, the diesel engine produces 194 PS of power and 400Nm of torque. The AMG Line variant is available with a 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder diesel engine that produces 286PS of power and 600Nm of torque. All three engines are equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
