Tata Nexon EV has been a major power in India’s passenger EV segment and has captured the top chart for a long time. However, another desi brand is ready to change the dynamics of the market. The Mahindra XUV400, which was unveiled last year, is now launched and Tata Nexon EV is fully prepared to compete with the twins.

Mahindra has launched the XUV400 in three variants. The base EC version with small 34.5kwh battery pack and 3.3kw charger starts at Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The other two trim levels get a high capacity of 39.4kwh battery pack, with the top-spec variant priced at Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This vehicle will be available in Arctic Blue, Everest White, Napoli Black, Infinity Blue, and Galaxy Gray color options. The XUV400 will get a three-year / unlimited kilometer warranty as a standard on the car and an 8 -year / 1,60,000 km warranty on the motor and battery. EV SUV will be available for booking from 26 January 2023.

The price of Tata Nexon Ev Prime with a 30.2kwh battery starts at Rs 14.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Nexon EV Prime Signature is available in Blue, Glacier White, Detona Gray and Starlite, while Nexon EV Max is available in Detona Gray, Intensity Til, Pristin White and Starlite color options. Nexon EV twins get a three-year / 1,25,000 km warranty as standard on the car and 8 years / 1,60,000 kilometers of warranty will also be available on the motor and battery.

Battery, Range and Charging
The Mahindra XUV400 provides a 34.5kwh battery pack and a 39.4kwh battery pack that gives a range of 375km and 456km respectively. In the XUV400, the small battery pack supports only 3.3kw charging while a high -capacity battery pack offers a 7.2kw fast charging feature. Fast charging on large battery packs can increase EV SUV from minus 100 percent in 6hr 30 minutes. The vehicle can be charged from zero to 80 percent in just 50 minutes through DC Fast Charger (50kw).
On the other hand, the Nexon Ev Prime provides a battery pack of 30.2kwh which is good for a 312 km driving range. Nexon Ev Max gets a large battery pack of 40.5kwh which now posts 453km range after recent software updates. The Nexon Ev Prime can be fully charged with 3.3kw charger in 10 hours, while it takes just 60 minutes to charge it from DC Fast Charger to 10 to 80 percent. The Nexon Ev Max is fully charged the EV with standard 3.3kw charger in about 15 to 16 hours, but does so in just 5 to 6 hours through 7.2kw fast charger. Nexon Ev Max also supports DC fast charging which charges it 10 to 80 percent in 56 minutes.
Performance
Mahindra’s XUV400 provides an electric motor that generates 150hp peak power and 310Nm peak torque. This helps it run at a speed of minus 100 kmph in only 8.3 seconds, which makes it the fastest. The XUV400 150 km per hour can lead to an electronically limited top speed.
On the other hand, Nexon Ev Prime with its 129hp and 245Nm electric motor catchs minus 100 km per hour in 9.9 seconds and will go ahead to 120 kmph speed. Nexon Ev Max provides a slightly more powerful 143bhp motor that produces a torque of 250nm. This Paurtrain Nexon Ev Max takes the speed of 100 kmph from standstall within 9 seconds. This EV SUV can do a top speed of 140 kmph.
Weight and Ground Clearance
The length of XUV400 is 4,200mm and is 200mm longer than Nexon EV Twins and can be compared to Hyundai Creta. Thus the vehicle has a large mass and increases the scale of 1,578 kg combined with a heavy battery pack. Although there is no official information about the ground clearance of this vehicle, it can be expected to be between 190mm and 205mm.
The Nexon EV twins are electric counterparts of the sub-compact SUV, which means that vehicles are less than 4,000 mm in length. Nexon Ev Max is 100 kg heavy compared to Nexon Ev Prime with its big battery. Nexon Ev Twins has a ground clearance of 205mm.
Safety and features
The Mahindra XUV400 is based on a GNCAP 5-star-rated platform and hence offers peace of mind when it comes to safety. Apart from its structural integrity, the XUV400 comes with six airbags, IP67 certified battery, 4 disc brakes, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a rearview camera and sensors. The XUV400 gets other feel-good features like electric sunroof, 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, AdrenoX connected car platform, leather seats, cruise control, an electronic shifter, LED lighting etc.
The new generation of Nexon EV is yet to be tested but the previous generation model was awarded 5 stars in the GNCAP tests. Safety suite includes ESP, traction control, rollover mitigation, auto hold function, TPMS. Hill ascent and descent control, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rearview camera and sensors and dual airbags. In terms of features, the Nexon EV MAX is the more equipped of the two and gets an electric sunroof 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leather seats, cruise control, electronic gear selector with display, LED There is lighting. , Ventilated seats, Multi-level regenerative braking, Air purifier, etc.
Mahindra XUV400 vs Tata Nexon EV: conclusion
For buyers who are shopping for an EV with the dimensions of a compact SUV-sized vehicle. The top-end variants of the Mahindra XUV400 make more sense. The added practicality and overall road presence of the larger cabin and more boot space work in the XUV400’s favour.
The Nexon EV twins are still a very strong product and in some cases even more feature-packed than the XUV400. Also, the Prime range and mid-tier trim levels make more sense as they are significantly cheaper than the new XUV400.
