History of National Doctors’ Day 2022
National Doctors’ Day was originally celebrated in 1991 to honor Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was also a former chief minister of Bengal, for his efforts and services. His birthday was July 1st, 1882, and he died on July 1st, 1962. As a result of the contributions he made to the medical profession during his tenure, July 1st is now observed as National Doctors’ Day.
The Bharat Ratna laureate was instrumental in building medical facilities such the Victoria Institution (College), Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital, Jadavpur TB Hospital, Chittaranjan Seva Sadan, Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital, and Chittaranjan Seva Sadan for women and children.
