IPL 2023 has had a total of 28 games played so far. The viewers must watch multiple matches during these events. However, BCCI has also gotten hefty fines from several players between IPL 2023 and now. The threat of a ban on these players is also present at the same time. All of these players were required to pay a fine while serving as captains this year.
Heavy fines were taken from these players by BCCI.
Hardik Pandya of the Gujarat Titans, Faf du Plessis of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sanju Samson of the Rajasthan Royals, Suryakumar Yadav of the Mumbai Indians, and KL Rahul of the Lucknow have all been booted from the IPL 2023 thus far for slow over rates. The fine has to be paid. A total of 12–12 lakh rupees had been taken back from these participants. The threat of banning these captains is now also present.
Ban threat that is present
For making such a mistake for the first time, the captain must pay a punishment of Rs 12 lakh in accordance with the slow over-rate regulations. If this error is made again, the captain will be fined 24 lakhs, and the other team members will each be penalized with a punishment equal to 25% of the match price. The captain would also be subject to a 30 lakh fine and a possible one-match suspension for making the slow over rate error three times. The team’s players will also be required to pay a fine equal to 50% of the match price.
Why is the overrate so slow?
In an ideal world, IPL innings would consist of 20 overs and last 90 minutes. In the allotted period, each team must bowl 20 overs. The captain and the team are not penalized for a sluggish over rate if the 20th over of the game begins in the 85th minute. However, if a team cannot begin the 20th over within 85 minutes, it will be penalized for a sluggish over rate.
