For 6.80 lakh cellphone numbers nationwide, a crisis is imminent. They will undoubtedly be closed down if these were acquired through the use of false documentation. Over six lakh mobile connections need to be double-checked, according to a directive from the nation’s Telecom department to telecom service providers.
Suspicion that a phony document was used to obtain the number
The Telecom Department’s investigation using artificial intelligence (AI) revealed that around 6.80 lakh mobile connections may be bogus numbers. These are connections that may have been made with the use of forged or fraudulent paperwork. Within 60 days, telecom firms must re-verify the identified cellphone numbers, under a directive from the Department of Telecom. According to the announcement, over 6.80 lakh mobile connections have been identified by the Department of Telecommunications. These are thought to have been acquired through the use of forged, false, and unlawful KYC documents, including evidence of address and identity.”
What will happen next?
Telecom service providers have received directives from the Telecom Department to confirm these designated mobile numbers once more. Within 60 days, it is required of all telecom providers to re-verify the detected connections. The connection will be closed if re-verification is unsuccessful.
The Telecom Department terminated
thousands of connections in April of this year. The telecom division had discovered 10,834 questionable mobile numbers for re-verification in April and out of these, 8272 mobile connections were disconnected after failing to re-verify. The use of incorrect or fake KYC documents indicates that these mobile connections have been obtained illegally.
