Seniors were eligible for discounts of up to 50% on general travel, air conditioning, and sleeper coaches under the terms in place before COVID-19.

On this, the railways say that a subsidy of Rs 59,837 crore is already being given in passenger fares. It was said that the average expenditure on a passenger is Rs 110, whereas, in comparison, only Rs 45 is charged.

At the same time, 4.74 crore senior persons took trains between 1 April 2021 and 2 February 2022. He had flatly refused to reinstate the senior citizen discount at that point. However, the administration is reportedly thinking of reintroducing it.
