The EPFO-UAN Update: Members whose Universal Account Number was issued after October 1, 2017, will have access to this function.
EPFO-UAN KYC Update: Without employer verification or EPFO clearance, over 7.6 crore EPFO members can now update personal information online, including name and birthdate. This facility opened for business on Saturday, January 18, 2025. In addition, Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) members who have e-KYC EPF accounts (connected to Aadhaar) can submit their EPF transfer claims online using an Aadhaar OTP (One Time Password) without the assistance of their employers.

During the launch of these two new EPFO services, Union Minister of Labor and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya stated that member profile and KYC issues account for about 27% of the complaints filed by EPFO members, and that these complaints will drastically decline once this facility is implemented. According to him, requests for changes to employees’ personal information will also help big companies with sizable workforces.
According to the Labour Minister, the EPFO portal has made the joint declaration process easier. Employees can now self-correct typical mistakes in their personal information, including name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father/mother’s name, marital status, spouse’s name, and the dates they joined and left the company.
Neither the EPFO’s approval nor the employer’s verification are required. In these situations, no supporting documentation is needed.
Members whose UAN (Universal Account Number) was issued after October 1, 2017 (when linking with Aadhaar became required), would be eligible for this service.
Even without the EPFO’s consent, the employer may update the information if the UAN was granted prior to October 1, 2017. Additionally, the need for supporting documentation in these situations has been streamlined. According to him, any corrections must be made in person to the employer and then verified before being submitted to the EPFO for approval, solely in situations when the UAN is not connected to Aadhaar.

The employer initially registers the employee for a UAN. During or after the registration process, many employees’ employers entered their father or spouse’s name, marital status, nationality, and service details incorrectly.
The employee has to submit an online request along with accompanying documentation in order to fix these mistakes. The employer had to confirm this request before it could be submitted to the EPFO for approval. Joint declaration was the name of this procedure.
It was discovered that, of the eight lakh requests that employers submitted to EPFO during the fiscal year 2024–2025, only 40% were sent within five days, and 47% were sent after ten. The employer took an average of 28 days to do this. Employees would be able to instantly update personal information using Aadhaar OTP verification in 45% of cases thanks to this simplification. Corrections will be made through the employer in the remaining 50% of situations.
