BCCI to retire jersey number 7! Dhoni’s number 7 will never be seen on the field

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has chosen to retire MS Dhoni’s number seven shirt as a mark of respect for the former captain of India. Dhoni wore this jersey number while playing for India in all three formats of cricket. Let us inform you that Dhoni is the only captain in Indian history to lead his team to three ICC titles. In the ICC Champions Trophy, ICC T20 World Cup, and ICC ODI World Cup, he has led India to victory.

BCCI provided details.

The Indian Express story claims that BCCI has told the players on the national team—particularly the rookies—that they will not be able to select the jersey numbers of Tendulkar and Dhoni. Tell you what, like Dhoni, the only other cricket player to be granted this kind of recognition is Sachin Tendulkar. BCCI also retired his signature number 10 jersey in 2017.

BCCI

No player may wear a jersey with the numbers 7 or 10.

Allow us to clarify: retiring the jersey prevents any other Indian cricket player from donning these two numbers on their jersey. According to the article, a BCCI official stated, “They have asked the young players and players in the current Indian team not to pick MS Dhoni’s number seven jersey.” In recognition of Dhoni’s contributions to the sport, BCCI has chosen to retire his T-shirt. Number 10 is already removed from the list of possible numbers, while number 7 is not available to new players.

BCCI

This is the jersey selection guideline.

Let us inform you that although there aren’t many possibilities available in India, generally speaking, ICC permits players to select any number between 1 and 100. There are currently about 60 numbers for the regular players and contenders of the Indian team, according to the BCCI official. We do not provide a player’s number to a new player, even if they are absent from the squad for nearly a year. This implies that a newcomer has about thirty options to select from.

Young Jaiswal was not given the jersey number he had wanted.

Let us tell you that opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, 21, was eager to don the number 19 shirt during his Indian Premier League debut earlier this year. Jaiswal plays for the Rajasthan Royals. However, this number was handed to cricketer-turned-commentator Dinesh Karthik. Who is no longer playing for India but is still an active player. Jaiswal was wearing jersey number 64 for this reason.
