Immersion marks the end of the Navratri fast.

The idol is submerged on the day of immersion following adoration of the goddess on the day that Goddess Durga defeats the demon Mahishasura; in other words, the Navratri fast is only broken on the tenth day following Durga Visarjan. This year, on October 2, after 6.15 am, the Navratri fast will be broken.

The proper technique for immersing Durga idol

  • Wake up in the Brahma Muhurta, take a bath, and engage in other activities on the day of idol immersion. Offer food and worship the goddess properly.
  • Give them vermillion; married women ought to use it on their own.
  • Do the Aarti. While Jaikara is being chanted, submerge the idol of Maa Durga in a pond or river.
