Railways have named the Alternative Train Housing Scheme (ATAS) as Vikalp Scheme. Railways try to give the maximum number of confirmed tickets to the passengers through this scheme. This increases the chances of passengers getting confirmed tickets during the festive season.

How does the system work?
When you are booking a waiting ticket online, you are asked to fill in the option at the time of booking. In this option, you are asked to select trains other than the train in which you have got waiting for a ticket. It means if the ticket booked by you is not confirmed then you will get a confirmed ticket on another selected train. You can check this option by going to the history of booked tickets.
