The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has constituted a high-level committee for cleaning the Yamuna in Delhi. It will be headed by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi. In view of the complete failure of the Delhi Government to comply with the orders of the Supreme Court and NG for the last 29 years, a committee has been constituted to monitor and comply with the orders.
The bench said that it seems that the decisions of the Supreme Court and the NGT have been ignored to a large extent in the matter of cleaning the Yamuna. The orders were not implemented within the prescribed time limit. The performance of the Delhi government in meeting the ground reality and accountability for cleaning the Yamuna has not been satisfactory. From the point of view of cleaning and pollution control of Yamuna, it seems necessary that top administrative officers should be involved in this.
After brainstorming on all aspects, the NGT constituted a high-level committee of concerned officers. The Lieutenant Governor, being the chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the administrator of Delhi, has been asked to head the high-level committee.
The uncontrolled flow of pollutants continues even after spending crores Despite the order issued for Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP), the uncontrolled flow of sewerage continues in Najafgarh and Shahdara drains. Due to incomplete sewerage work in many residential areas also, the level of pollution in Yamuna can be seen in the data displayed on the website of the Delhi Pollution Control Board and NGT. The order was not followed even after spending Rs 1500 crore on behalf of the Delhi government.
