15 years ban on Petrol-Diesel cars removed in Delhi-NCR? Know what the government said

Petrol-Diesel Car Ban in Delhi-NCR: Diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years were banned several years ago in view of pollution in the Delhi-NCR region. The ban was imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). This rule means that if you have a diesel car older than 10 years or a petrol car older than 15 years, you cannot use it in the Delhi-NCR area. At present, a post is becoming increasingly viral on social media claiming that NGT has lifted this ban on old vehicles in Delhi-NCR.

It added that a notification was issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) and this statement was dropped from diesel cars older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years. Apart from this, it was also claimed that now you can renew the registration by paying a fee of Rs 5000.

When did the decision come?

Let us tell you that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued this order in November 2014. Its objective was to remove old vehicles in Delhi-NCR to reduce pollution. An order dated April 7, 2015, also directed that all diesel vehicles older than 10 years would not be allowed to ply on city roads.

The government told the truth

Now MoRTH has issued a clarification regarding the claim being made on social media. The ministry said that this is fake news. MoRTH wrote in its tweet, “A fake news is doing the rounds in social media claiming that MoRTH has approved the ban imposed by NGT on vehicles (10 years old for diesel and 15 years old for petrol) in Delhi NCR has been removed.” Removal notification has been issued. It said, “MORTH wishes to clarify that the ban imposed by the NGT is still in force.”
