As per this, the five-day work days could be in place soon for bank employees. A settlement has been reached by the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the United Forum of Bank Employees on this. Due to the fact that there is an increase of two holiday days in a month, the hours of work for banking employees are extended.

As per the new contract banks, employees will be required to work for an additional 40 minutes every day. It is important to note that, aside from Sunday bank holidays, banks will be closed on the fourth and second Saturdays of each month. A new arrangement could be in place in the near future on this issue. Consent has been granted by the association in this respect. Bank unions have demanded five days of work for a long period of time.
Five-day week occurred in LIC the year before.
The five-day week was a norm in LIC before its listing in the stock market in the year 2022. Following this, the demand for a five-day week by the banks increased. S Nagarajan, General Secretary of the All India Bank Officers, declared that the government would have to declare all weekends as holiday days under Article 25 in the Negotiable Instruments Act.
The report states that employees will have to work for an additional 40 minutes
every day starting at 9.45 am until 5.30 pm. A senior official further stated that the plan has been accepted through the IBA. Bank employees have stated that the majority of customers are using ATMs, mobile banking as well as online banking. However, it’s for some customers who prefer visiting the branch.
