There has been significant news that will provide people with relief. The toll is now free of tax thanks to the Indian government. However, for a certain distance, this toll tax is no longer applicable. Within a certain radius, any vehicle may be driven without having to pay tolls.
People will need to
install a gadget in their cars for this. This gadget is called GNSS. Once this gadget is installed in the vehicle, you can only benefit from this government program.
How will there be no toll tax?
The National Highway Fee Rules of 2008 have undergone modifications by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This means that if you go on a national highway for up to 20 kilometers, you won’t have to pay any toll tax. However, you will have to pay tax only for the distance covered beyond 20 km.
What is the new rule?
As per the new notification issued by the government, the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) will have to be installed in the car to monitor the distance covered by the vehicle, so that you can know the distance covered by your car in a day. For a maximum distance of 20 kilometers, cars using the National Highway, Permanent Bridge, Bypass, and Tunnel will not be required to pay any taxes under this new regulation. Those who reside close to the highway and had to pay the full toll fee just to travel a small distance will now have relief.
New notification on Toll Tax
The government announcement further states that a dedicated lane has been set aside for the Global Navigation Satellite System. However, the toll duty payable by anyone entering the lane without this valid system would double. According to the Highway Ministry, the GNSS toll tax collecting system was initially used on a few national routes as a pilot project. Now it has been implemented in the entire country since September 10.
