In India, the market for affordable electric cars is experiencing increasing competition. Tata Motors is the largest seller of electric cars in India. Tata’s cheapest electric vehicle, the Tata Tiago EV, was launched last year by Tata Motors. The price of the Tata Tiago EV starts at Rs. 8.69 lakhs. Now, MG will bring a compact electric vehicle MG Comet to India.
India will see the launch of the MG electric car this year.
The name of the electric car has been announced by the company. It will be called MG Comet. Named after the famous 1934 British airplane, which participated in the Australia-England MacRobertson Air Race. The MG Comet will use the Wuling Air EV that was sold on the global market.
The unique thing about MG’s electric car is that it will be smaller than the Tata Tiago EV or Citroen eC3.
The length of MG Comet is approximately 2,900 mm. It will be equipped with three doors: one at the rear and two at the sides. The car will seat for 4 people. It is possible that it will be sold in India for less than 10 lakh rupees.
Battery and Features
Information about the electric motor and battery pack has not yet been released. The battery pack’s capacity is estimated to be slightly higher than 20 kWh. The battery pack will provide a range of 250-300km on one charge. It is expected to produce around 40 Bhp. Interiors will be the MG Comet’s greatest asset. The interior will feature dual screens. They will include a large touchscreen infotainment screen and a cluster of digital instruments. This vehicle will also feature connected car technology.
